- Tuesday, November 18: The Atlantic Coast Pipeline
When: 6:30-8:30 PM
Where: Ruby's Lounge (downstairs at Clementine Cafe, Harrisonburg)
Speakers: Nancy Sorrells, Augusta County Alliance; Kirk Bowers, Sierra Club Virginia Chapter
Dominion Energy has announced plans to build a 42" natural gas pipeline across southcentral Virginia to connect gas fields in West Virginia with markets in North Carolina and along the east coast of Virginia. The pipeline will destroy hundreds of acres of national forest and farmland and will have potentially negative impacts on many waterways. It will also raise the potential for natural gas drilling in the national forest by providing a convenient transportation medium.
At this meeting you'll hear the latest about the status of the pipeline project, what Virginia communities are doing to protect their environment, and how you can help.
Nancy Sorrells is co-chair of the Augusta County Alliance, which has been actively involved in organizing community interest around the pipeline in Augusta County and beyond. She is a member of the Augusta County Service Authority Board, and a former member of the Augusta County Board of Supervisors. Kirk Bowers is the statewide pipeline issues chair for the Sierra Club Virginia Chapter.
