NEW! - MONTHLY PROGRAM SERIES TO START OCTOBER 14 - Sierra Club announces the first in our monthly environmental program series, co- sponsored by the Environmental Concerns Committee of Roanoke Unitarian Universalist Church. "Health of the Oceans" will be presented by Dr. Melissa Booth, Professor of Biology at Roanoke College. Date: Friday, October 14, 6:30 PM at the Unitarian Church (Brandon and Grandin in Roanoke). Future programs will be scheduled on the second Friday of each month. We'll have refreshments (feel free to bring snack to share with others). Everyone welcome! ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY - FIRST YEAR IN THE BOOKS! - NEW "SEASON" TO START OCTOBER 1 - On July 31 we had our fourth litter pick up on Blacksburg Road, fulfilling our commitment for the inaugural year of this program. We've picked up over 25 huge bags of litter and some other interesting rubbish. Our thanks to all who have participated this past year: Diana Christopulos, Joann Edmunds, Bob Egbert, Lara Egbert, Nancy Hampton, Joyce Holt, Scott Hurst, Judy Larson, Mark McClain, Bill Modica, Jim Phipps, Gerry Oefelein, Hugh & Elaine Scruggs, Grace Terry, Judy Walz. EXCOM ELECTIONS PLANNED - Our group is governed by seven volunteers (the Executive Committee), who are elected annually by the general membership. If you are interested in serving on the ExCom, or if you know someone who should be considered for nomination, please contact a member of the Nominating Committee: by September 30: Pam Berberich (989-4335), Bob Egbert (384-7448), Chad Braby (798-2576) or Mark McClain (387-0930).
