Sunday Oct 12th,

Caledon State Park , 1 PM

This is about a six mile hike at Caledon.  The hike will start at the parking lot next to the visitors center.  We will cover the new Belmont Trail, and parts of the Cedar Ridge, Benchmark, Boyd's Hole and Flats Trails.  Moderately strenuous with some hills. Some rough and potentially slippery/muddy terrain. Boardwalks that may be slippery. Part of the hike is down to the river over park roads (not public roads). We'll stop briefly about half way so folks can decide to continue or cut it short.
During the hike, we'll discuss some of the problems at Caledon and other parks with invasive species and what is being done to control them.
The hike will start at 1:00PM and last about three-four hours.  No stops are planned, however we can take brief breaks as desired.  There are some steep hills and the trails are likely to be muddy and slippery in places.
Rain or shine. The pace will be about 2 to 2.5 miles per hour. Participants should be prepared for this distance and terrain with proper conditioning and appropriate clothing and foootwear and be prepared for any changes in the weather. Participants may want to carry water.
Pets are permitted at Caledon if they're on a six-foot leash (max) and under control at all times.
Parking fee at Caledon is $3 per car on the weekends. Bring exact change since its an envelope system; after tearing off the mirror hang-tag, the envelope which goes in a pipe safe.

Urban Hike Fredericksburg, 10:00 AM at Hyperion

This is about a six mile hike around Fredericksburg and across into the parks on the Stafford side of the river.  Back across the river at Falmouth. Up the river to the canal, and then finish on city streets. The hike will start and finish at the Hyperion Coffee Shop at the corner of Princess Anne and William Streets.
Starting at the Hyperion, we'll cross the Chatham Bridge, go through the parks on the Stafford side, back across the Falmouth Bridge, up the river to the canal, down the canal path, and back through town.
Some parts of the hike will be on muddy and slippery paths, some off trail walking. There is one stretch down a steep and gravelly slope that will require care.
About 6 miles; about three hours depending on our pace.
The weather is variable this time of year, so be prepared for rain or sun. Bring drinking water.
Pets are permitted if they're on a leash and under control at all times. Be prepared to control the pet closely on the bridges.  The walkway is narrow and next to traffic.  The hike is best for adults; you may bring children, but you will need to be especially careful of them, particularly on the bridges and where there is traffic.
During the hike, we'll discuss some of the efforts that are being made to increase the opportunity for non-motorized transit in the Fredericksburg region.
The hike will start at shortly after 10:00 AM and last about three hours. No stops are planned, however we can take brief breaks as desired.  There is some moderate elevation change.
