Spesard Knob

The Spesard Knob area, with no marked trails, provides a remote off-trail hiking experience. It contains 226 acres of possible old growth, and a large block of unfragmented habitat critical for black bear populations.

Spesard Knob is less than one mile from the Sinking Creek area, across Sinking Creek Valley. While the area itself is small, it is adjacent to roadless areas on two sides. Its streams drain into Craig Creek.

Approximate Size: 2,084 acres
Location: Craig County, south of New Castle, New Castle Ranger District
Topos: Catawba
