Rogers Ridge

On the north side of Rogers Ridge, Whetstone Branch, Richardson Branch, and an unnamed creek flow through deep hollows. There are several unofficial trails through the hollows, where tall trees, a lack of midstory trees, and lush ground vegetation creates a mystical, open-woods atmosphere for hikers. The Forest Service characterizes 80 percent of the area as retaining natural scenic beauty. The ridge, which crosses the Virginia-Tennessee border, serves as a corridor for bear.

On the north side of Rogers Ridge, the Gentry Creek Trail follows scenic Gentry Creek past a number of sparkling, low cascades. The trail continues along the ridge top through a maintained bald, which features the rocky outcroppings of Catface Ridge and spectacular views to the south and southeast. The trail is open to horseback riders.

The Forest Service identified this Rogers Ridge roadless area, which includes 180 acres on the Jefferson National Forest and 4,753 acres on the Cherokee National Forest.

Approximate Size: 180 acres
