Patterson Mountain

The Patterson Mountain Trail ascends to the 2,250-foot ridge top, which affords good views of Price, Potts, Rich Patch, and Bald mountains, and Craig Creek Valley. The trail follows the crest of Patterson Mountain for 6 miles, and the Tucker, Helms, Elmore, and Loop trails lead off the ridge to the south. The Helms and Elmore trails are difficult, with tricky stream crossings. The Patterson Mountain area also serves as the watershed for Patterson Creek along its boundary. The opposite, or northwestern, side of Patterson Mountain drains directly into Craig Creek.

The Forest Service characterizes 99 percent of this unroaded area as generally retaining natural scenic beauty. More than 2,300 acres of the area provides excellent opportunities for secluded, backcountry recreation, and the area includes 133 acres of possible old growth.

The Forest Service identified this Patterson Mountain roadless area.
