Little
Dry Run Wilderness Addition

The
Little Dry Run Wilderness Addition, a dry, lower-elevation area,
is forested with oak, hickory,
and pine. The area is bordered on the east by Little
Dry Run Trail, and, with its light use, provides a secluded back-country
experience. Another trail follows Kinser Creek through the addition,
and the Iron Mountain Trail crosses the area for 1.5 miles. Views of the
addition can be enjoyed from Corners Rock near FS 57— one of the
high points in this side of the NRA. The area includes
133 acres of possible old growth.
The golden-crowned kinglet, very rare in Virginia, also has been sighted in this
area. This species is associated with mature forest.
The Forest Service identified this addition to the west of Little Dry Run Wilderness.
