Kimberling
Creek Wilderness Additions

Located
on the side of Hogback Mountain, this 5,580-acre wilderness has
no maintained trails, and
features the remote hollows of North Fork and Sulphur Spring Fork,
which are tributaries of Kimberling Creek. There also are no roads
or developed trails in the Kimberling Creek Wilderness additions.
These areas are popular with hunters, with black bear being the featured
species. The additions protect a spring on the edge of the Kimberling
Creek Wilderness, and lands above Kimberling Creek and one of its
tributaries. Each of the additions, in its entirety, is characterized
by the Forest Service as retaining natural scenic beauty.
The Forest Service identified Addition A (northwest) and Addition B (south) to
the Kimberling Creek Wilderness. These areas were acquired in the last 10 years
by the Forest Service. Had they been national forest lands at the time of the
1984 Virginia Wilderness Act, it is likely they would have been included in the
Kimberling Creek Wilderness.
Approximate Size: Addition A 89 acres, Addition B 195 acres
Location: Bland County; east of 1-77, Wythe Ranger District
Topo: Rocky Gap
