Brush Mountain East

This area is separated by a power line from the Brush Mountain roadless area to the west. Brush Mountain East includes or borders about 7.5 miles of the Appalachian Trail, which follows the rocky spine of Brush Mountain, affording lovely views of Cove Mountain, DragonŐs Tooth, Craig Creek Valley, and Siing Creek Mountain.

Nearby is a monument to Audie Murphy, a WWII hero who died in a plane crash on the mountain. This monument is outside the boundary of this proposed area. For the area identified in this report, FS Road 188-3, generally forms the southeast boundary.

Various streams in the area drain into Craig Creek, which crosses the area near Rt. 621. On the ridgetop to the east of the monument is the Brush Mountain Special Biological Area.

The Forest Service characterizes 90 percent of this area as retaining unspoiled scenic beauty. Most of the area affords excellent opportunities for backcountry recreation.
