Broad
Run

The Broad Run area includes the Price-Broad Mountain trail along the
ridge, the Lick Branch and Ferrier trails, and the Lees Creek Trail.
This relatively remote area contains three mountains separated by steep
drainages. The trail up Lick Branch features a pristine, low-elevation
stream close to New Castle. Lick Branch and other streams are tributaries
to Craig Creek.
The Forest Service identified a 6,016-acre semi-primitive recreation area in
this mountain treasure. This area alone is larger than the average wilderness
area in the Jefferson National Forest. The Forest Service characterizes
88 percent of the Broad Run area as generally retaining unspoiled scenic beauty,
and the
area includes 256 acres of possible old growth.
The Forest Service identified this Broad Run roadless area. It is the largest
roadless area in the New Castle Ranger District, and the second largest roadless
area in the Jefferson National Forest. It is bordered by several other mountain
treasures.
