Beaverdam
Creek

The
Beaverdam Creek area is part of the upper Holston Mountain. It includes
9 miles of the Appalachian
Trail, 1.5 miles of which are on the Jefferson National Forest. Beaverdam
Creek, a beautiful whitewater trout stream that borders the area, is
home to the hellbender, one of the largest salamander species in the
world.
The area contains at least two rare plants: Carolina saxifrage and Carolina
hemlock. Much of the area has been logged, but several stands of older
forest remain. The Forest Service characterizes the entire area as retaining
unspoiled scenic
beauty.
The Forest Service identified this Beaverdam Creek roadless area, which includes
1,133 acres on the Jefferson National Forest and 5,130 acres on the Cherokee
National Forest.
