Garden Mountain Cluster

Select yellow circle for information about the area

1. Hunting Camp - Little Wolf Creek
2. Garden Mountain
3. Beartown Wilderness
4. Lynn Camp Creek

This cluster directly connects several remote wildlands along the high country of Garden Mountain, its flanks, and adjacent streams and ridges. Twenty-four rugged, scenic miles of the Appalachian Trail runs through and next to these areas. At Chestnut Knob, the Appalachian Trail reaches over 4,400 feet, the highest elevation this far north along the trail until New Hampshire. In this cluster, the trail also follows cascading Little Wolf Creek, offering some of the prettiest streamside hiking along the AT in the state. Views from the areas in the cluster into historic Burke's Garden are unique and breathtaking.

With logical expansions to the existing 5,600-acre Beartown Wilderness and other superlative wilderness candidates here, this cluster provides an opportunity on the Jefferson National Forest to safeguard a large block of connected wildlands for recreational and ecological benefits for future generations.
