Friday, May 8
Earth Friendly Friday, Diana Christopulos: "FIVE MILLION STEPS: The Appalachian
Trail 2000-2008". Earth Friendly Friday is the second Friday of each month, and
it is jointly sponsored by the Roanoke Sierra Club and The Unitarian
Universalist Church of Roanoke. Location: The Unitarian Universalist Church of

Sunday, May 10
The Sierra Club will be manning a collection center for the YMCA's YToss
program. Volunteers are needed to help us take in items at the West End store
collection location. Help keep used items from the students move-out from ending
up in the landfill. Contact Maria Bowling to volunteer at 239-2583.
Wednesday, May 20
3rd Wednesdays at 5. Meet at 5pm at More Than Coffee, a Lebanese restaurant near
the corner of North Main and College at 235 North Main in downtown Blacksburg.
We will take care of any immediate Sierra Club business, catch up on
environmental news, and enjoy the good company. A regular event for the New
River Group.
Saturday, May 30
2nd Annual Trail Angel Picnic. We will host a pot luck picnic at the Pine Swamp
Shelter of the Appalachian Trail (off of VA 635) and we'll feed any thru-hikers
that come along. Meet at the Blacksburg University Blvd. Kroger parking lot at
3:15, or at the shelter at 4 p.m. Bring a side dish and beverage. Please RSVP to
Maria Bowling at 239-2583.

The Environmental Protection Agency told the Army Corps of Engineers it should
revoke a permit previously issued for the Ison Rock Ridge mountaintop removal
coal mining operation in Wise County, Virginia.
