Earth Friendly Friday, Bruce Hull: "Searching for Sustainability". Earth
Friendly Friday is the second Friday of each month, and it is jointly sponsored
by the Roanoke Sierra Club and The Unitarian Universalist Church of Roanoke.

Sunday, July 12
Join an Appalachian Trail maintenance trip sponsored by the Outing Club at
Virginia Tech. Meet at 8am, Squires Student Center on the Virginia Tech Campus.
Will work on the Bland section of the AT. If there are enough people, the group
will touch up the blazes and clear the trail (sickle and loppers). The hike
itself will be relatively flat but will be about 8 miles round trip. Come on out
if you can. Help is needed. Leave trail at 5:30 for return to Blacksburg.

tools can be gathered .
Wednesday, July 15
3rd Wednesdays at 5. Meet at 5pm at More Than Coffee, a Lebanese restaurant near
the corner of North Main and College at 235 North Main in downtown Blacksburg.
We will take care of any immediate Sierra Club business, catch up on
environmental news, and enjoy the good company. A regular event for the New
River Group.
7 pm. General meeting after 5 pm dinner. Great Hall, Christ Episcopal Church,
Blacksburg. Park in the church lot off Jackson Street and go to the double doors
off the parking lot. A fossil fuel tax and our plans for a booth at Steppin' Out

Saturday, August 29
Hike in the Mountain Lake Wilderness in Giles County. This wilderness area has
recently been expanded, thanks to the passage of the Virginia Ridge and Valley
Act. The hike will visit a scenic outlook over Johns Creek Valley. Meet 9:30 am
at the Forest Service Eastern Divide Ranger District Office, Blackburg, located
at 110 Southpark Drive just north of the intersection of Business 460 (South
Main) and the 460 Bypass. Contact Sherman Bamford,
