Welcome to the New River Sierra Club Group!

Founded in 1892, the Sierra Club seeks to practice and promote the responsible use of the earth's ecosystems and resources. As part of the Virginia Chapter of the Sierra Club, the New River Sierra Club Chapter includes all Sierra Club members who live in the New River watershed in Virginia. Our area is 3070 square miles, and we have approximately 400 members.

The New River Sierra Club Chapter holds meetings to discuss and organize events for local, regional, and national environmental issues. We publish a newsletter twice a year, and we also organize hikes and outings. Additionally, the group maintains an email announcement list for the purpose of distributing information about New River Group activities, such as hikes, meetings, and alerts related to local environmental issues. Anyone may subscribe to this list.

To subscribe to the announcement list, send an email message to:

LISTSERV@LISTS.SIERRACLUB.ORG

Simply leave the subject line blank, and type the following for the body of the message:

SUB VIRGINIA-NEWRIVER-NEWS FirstName LastName

where "FirstName LastName" is replaced with your own first and last name. This will be the name you will be known by on the list.

If you have questions about the listserv, please contact Maria Bowling at maria.bowling at gmail.com.

We also share announcements with other groups in the New River Valley via the NRVOutdoorsEtc listserv.

Our chapter meets informally on every third Wednesday at 5:00 at More Than Coffee on South Main St. in downtown Blacksburg. Fee free to drop by and meet us.

Also, check out our calendar and links to other organizations. We join with these other groups to work on environmental issues important to Virginia and the New River Valley.
