Be on a Legislative Contact Team. You can be on the legislative contact team and meet or communicate with your State Legislative Representatives locally. The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) will give you the material you need and team you up with like-minded individuals who are in your legislative districts. Contact Suzanne Ankrum at Suzanne@vcnva.org or 804-644-0283. EndorsementsThe endorsement process begins at the local group level. Sierra Club groups across the state evaluate candidates in their local districts for their environmental potential by considering their League of Conservation (LCV) conservation voting record scorecard (incumbents), conservation portions of their campaign platform, and the impact of their proposed policies on the environment. Endorsement is then voted on at the group level and then at the chapter level by representatives from each group. To get involved in the club process contact us. To learn who your representatives are, to look at the LCV scorecard for candidates, or otherwise learn about the political process in Virginia and how to get involved, follow this link to the LCV-VA website . General Assembly & LegislationThe VA legislative session runs from January-February. 2000-3000+ bills on average are evaluated each session, which makes for an action-packed few months. Each year, we participate in the Virginia Conservation Networks (VCN) annual Lobby for the Environment Day, on Martin Luther King Day (January 15). Contact us to get involved or become part of a Legislative Contact team. We also dedicate our first membership meeting of the year to an overview of pending legislation related to energy, transportation, and the environment.
