Outing GFG's Blue Ridge Outdoor Program
When:
Jul 26, 2008
Beginning at 8 AM
Details:
Join Sierra Club's Great Falls Group for a refreshing and informative day, as well as a potluck picnic lunch, at the beautiful 900-acre Blue Ridge Center for Environmental Stewardship in Loudoun County. Free and open to all.
We will begin at 8 AM with a guided bird tour by the Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy (LWC), hiking through this varied habitat that is home to more than 150 bird species. A potluck picnic lunch will follow at about 11:30 AM, either outside on picnic tables or inside an open barn, depending on the weather. Starting about 1 PM, you can enjoy LWC's family-oriented butterfly walk, followed at about 2 PM by the farm manager's tour of the seven-acre organic farm (star attractions are eight baby goats!).
Is 8 AM too early for you? You can still join us for the potluck picnic lunch and the afternoon activities. Guests are free to roam the trails and enjoy the different habitats, which include wetlands, meadows, rocky outcrops, creeks, seeps and springs. Bring your unused cell phones and empty inkjet cartridges and the Center will recycle them for you in an environmentally-friendly way.
More information, such as a bird list and a trail map, can be found on the Center's website, www.brces.org.
