MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR

This is a very important year for the Chesapeake Bay Group of the Sierra Club. With global warming and sea level rising as major concerns, the time for involvement and action is now.

We are particularly interested and committed to local issues. The group is now identified with several important local issues. These issues include:

  • Global warming,
  • Sea level rising,
  • Alternate sources of energy,
  • Energy conservation,
  • Home audits for energy efficiency,
  • Smart growth and pedestrian friendly developments,
  • Developing a sense of community,
  • Water quality and the Chesapeake Bay, the Elizabeth River and the Lynnhaven River,
  • Support for Virginia's state parks.

We are changing our monthly meetings agenda to address two or three of the above issues to maintain our momentum on multiple issues.

We are upgrading our outings to be both fun and educational. This Spring we will be focusing on birds, butterflies and native plants. The meetings will include previewing what we will be seeing on our outings.

We are also expanding our service outings programs. We are planning on projects at local state parks, Stumpy Lake, and the Dismal Swamp Refuge.

The monthly membership meetings will be the source from which all our efforts will emanate. Come and be involved, get knowledgeable about the outdoors, and have fun with others with similar values. We can do more with your help!!
