We are a better nation. The administration has severely tested us and we are beginning to mature and are becoming (this more not needed) politically more aware and active. These are very good things. Yet, there is still a lot more to do. The issue is not whether the Democrats or Republicans are in power. The issue is how are we as a people going to come together and address our problems. Something that we have not been doing for the past six years. We don't seem to ever get beyond arguing about the war, social security and medicare. We need to be making improvements on education, economic development and being competitive in a global economy, and improving transportation with progress on land policies. Terrorism is a fact of life and we need to reduce polarization here at home and to build better relationships with other countries. In addition, we do need to provide all with some basic health care. Environmentally, there is much to be done. We need to better preserve and maintain our public lands and national and state parks. We need better land use policies and sustainable cities. We need an assured and clean water supply with clean air for all. We need an energy policy that is looking to the future. We need these things that benefit all Americans and make us proud again. Sierra Club is committed to a better nation. Come and be a part of the effort. There is still a lot to do. Fred Adams [Click to email comments, or call 467-2775.] |
